Picturesque Pemberton, situated in a valley surrounded by the karri forests of the Gloucester and Pemberton Forest Park, is home to fewer than 1000 people. The pretty timber town, which enjoys a cool climate and has a good variety of attractions, is worth planning to stay an extra day or two in. Aside from cycling, Pemberton offers hiking, swimming, bird watching, canoeing and 4WD tours. The town also boasts some 80 varieties of fruit and vegetables, fresh produce, truffles, marron and locally produced products. The town hosts a range of facilities including a supermarket, bank and hospital. The Pemberton Visitor Centre can be found on the main street and will offer information on what to do while in the region. The staff will advise you of all you need to know to make your stay more pleasurable.

Town History

The town has a wealth of history dating from the early aboriginal peoples through the first settlers, group settlement schemes, and the development of the timber, agriculture and tourist industries. Pemberton was established as a township in 1913 and the name of the town came from one of these early settlers, Pemberton Walcott.
